Hi World!
As a young lad, my mom and dad encouraged me and bought me an oil painting set complete with an easel when I was around 12 years old , so I started painting whatever caught my interest. Raw and untrained I went about painting whatever piqued my interest. I produced a small collection and a family friend put my work into a gallery and sold a few pieces of my artwork. And I was asked to produce a few paintings on commission.
In Vineyard junior high school in 7th grade I had a Math teacher who challenged me. If I would stop drawing in class and pay attention to math class she would let me draw one day a week at the front of her class at a table, what’s more whatever I created would be hung on the walls of the classroom. By the end of the year pictures surrounded the room. In the 8th grade I had a reputation as an artist. I joined art class. That year was highlighted by drawing caricatures at the annual open school festival, and I was awarded first place in a national poster contest for Veterans Day. In high school I did the usual art class and enjoyed Sculpture and abstract art.
At age 17 I joined a small community theater that was converting an old Church into a theater. Their first production was “A Christmas Carol”,
I met my wife to be Theresa auditioning, we married at age 18 and 19 respectively. I got the role of the ghost of Christmas past. No lines just 6,7” tall and imposing.
I was given the opportunity to paint a 8’x8’ mural on the wall of the foyer. I chose a scene from (A Mid -summer’s night dream).
I graduated mid term from high school and focused on my career as a Veterinary Technician. I went into veterinary sales, and eventually started my own Whittemore Enterprises medical equipment and supply out of our garage in 1983. I didn’t pick up my art for years other than occasional sketches. In 1979 we purchased our second home. It was a model and came furnished with all kinds of nicely framed pictures, which we didn’t care for, so I set a goal to replace them with original artwork. These pieces ended up hanging in the business until my retirement in 2019
I had not done anything artistic for 33 years. What got me back on track was my son Trevor, he was writing horror novels and I told him that when he got published l would make him a mask of the monster well his first book was published (Provider Nocturnus) about a young boy who’s Night terrors turn out to be a real demon that The angel Michael has to teach him to fight. Trevor dragged me along to Monster Pelouze where I met incredibly talented people in the makeup and monster making industry. See my listing (Monster Masks) link
I am blessed to have my daughter Sheila who has taken over the business. And I am loving retirement which provides the subsequent freedom to pursue painting and sculpting. I always said I would have lots to keep me busy and time to create. I hope you like my work as much as I love doing it.
